Zurich is packed full of great places for a cup of coffee or a slice of cake with your breakfast and cafés where you can enjoy a late brunch while watching the world go by. We’ve brought the best breakfast and brunch joints in Zurich together into one list so you can test them out for yourself.

1. Babu’s Bakery & Coffeehouse

Bakery, Cafe, Coffee Shop, Restaurant, Coffee, Swiss

Babu’s Bakery & Coffeehouse has you sorted for both brunch and breakfast serving from an extensive menu that’s good for both the health conscious and the meat hungry. It also serves some of the best coffee in town that just so happens to come decorated like a work of art. Service can be long so booking in advance is recommended if you plan to brunch here, otherwise you can take your food to-go.

2. Bar Si o No

Bar, Pub Grub, Dessert

A Jekyll and Hyde sort of place that serves cocktails until the wee hours, then ‘hangover’ brunches on Saturdays and Sundays. Si or No has an eclectic mix of healthy salads, fresh fruit, yoghurts and something for the sweet-toothed with a decent array of cakes on offer. If you’ve been dancing the night away it’s the right sort of pick-me-up that’ll leave you feeling fresh again.

3. Café Odeon

Cafe, Diner, Bar, Restaurant, European, Pub Grub

Surrounded yourself in history at Café Odeon, which first opened its doors in 1911 and became a hub for 20th century thinkers. Over the years it’s been a favourite hang-out spot for artists, writers, musicians and scientists including James Joyce; Erich Maria Remarque, author of All Quiet on the Western Front; and of course, Albert Einstein who was counted among the café’s regulars. With ceiling length mirrors, the old-school diner feel has been maintained – and the quality of the breakfast hasn’t diminished either.

Café des Amis is a relaxed bistro-style bar in Wipkingen, a residential area, that feels much more Paris than Zurich, and is immensely popular as a result. Things move much slower here, so expect to wait for your food. At weekends brunch is served until 4pm but be warned, you’ll need to book if you want to have a chilled Sunday brunch as it is packed all day.

Haus Hiltl

The world’s oldest vegetarian restaurants is also where you can try out one of Zurich’s best brunches, which is served until 2.30pm on Sundays. The food is offered buffet-style and you can pay by weight or 35CHF and eat as much as you want. You’ll find traditional delights such as pancakes, pastries and fresh fruit, likewise more exotic dishes such as eggplant curry, kachari and samosas. Reasonably priced and certain to leave you satisfied, Haus Hiltl comes recommended.
